Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or, four stylized horse heads couped and interlocked per quarter, those in chief Sable and Buff and in base Argent and Gules; all within a bordure Gold.  Beneath the shield a parted curved Red scroll inscribed IUVARE PUGNAM in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The gold represents the sand and sunshine of the Arizona desert, the original location of the battalion in Phoenix.  The horse has made the most contribution to human civilization of any animal and therefore is a traditional symbol for support. Here the white horse represents the unity of effort of the team.  The black horse reflects the efforts of the team.  The red horse signifies readiness of the team.  The buff horse reflects the power of the team.  The motto translates to Support The Fight.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 26 November 2014.  It was amended to revise the symbolism on 6 April 2015.

Shield

Per pale dancett Gules and Buff, an endorse dancett Sable between four horse heads erased and addorsed two and two.  Those in chief of the third and the second and in base Argent and of the first, details counterchanged per fess.  All edged with a narrow bordure of the third.

Crest

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Arizona Army National Guard:  From a wreath Argent and Gules, a giant cactus Proper.

Motto

IUVARE PUGNAM (Support The Fight).
